- eMachines T5274 not a stand-out
With stiff competition from other sub-$400 PCs, eMachines' T5247 has a hard time standing out. It will certainly serve as a basic productivity system, but other desktops will help you stretch your computer dollar even further.

- D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 - wireless router might be worth some wait The D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 is a stable performer with excellent Web interface. But because it comes in a bulky, old-school design, has a relatively short range, and carries a hefty price tag, consider waiting for the price to drop before investing in this router.

- Samsung HL61A750 a good choice Samsung's HL61A750 61-inch rear-projection HDTV delivers excellent overall picture quality, and, compared to flat-panel options, it's a real bargain.

- Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815 not the right laptop Unless you need a 17.1-inch display, there are better entry-level laptops than the Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815.

- Apple iPhone 3G (16GB, black) ups the ante
The iPhone 3G delivers on its promises by adding critical features and sharper performance. The iTunes Apps Store is pretty amazing, and the 3G support is more than welcome. We still have a few gripes, but the iPhone 3G a big improvement over the original model.

- Dell Inspiron 1525 is a midsize dream The Dell Inspiron 1525-121B is the textbook example of a midsize, mainstream laptop. Switching to slower CPU knocks a little off the performance, but also takes $80 off the price and adds battery life, compared with Dell's more mainstream configurations.

- Iomega eGo Camo portable hard drive (250GB, camo) brings satisfaction The eGo Camo portable hard drive is Iomega's first attempt at a "ruggedized" drive--it can withstand a beating thanks to its Power Grip band. Despite it lacking a few accessories, you'll be satisfied with its competitive price and quick transfer speeds.

- Radius Atomic Strap Earbuds (blue) brings the bass out The Radius Atomic Strap Earbuds are a solid option for 3G iPod Nano owners who like lots of bass and don't want to break the bank to get it. They're not the most versatile earphones, though.

AT&T blunders on free Wi-Fi for iPhones
AT&T just can't commit. To free Wi-Fi for iPhone 3G customers, that is. The company seems to be having a blunder-fest with announcements that iPhone 3G customers can get free Wi-Fi at its nationwide AT&T WiFi HotSpots (most notably in Starbucks stores). Rik Fairlie
