Service and support of Dell Inspiron 1000

Design: 7 Features: 6 Performance: 4 Battery life: 6 Service and support: 7 Dell's support policies for the Inspiron 1000 are complicated. The company backs the high-end model that CNET tested with a three-year warranty that includes free, toll-free, 24/7 tech support and customer-paid shipping for depot repair. The two less expensive models, however, come with warranty support for just one year. Furthermore, you can opt out of long-term support entirely and save a few bucks by choosing Dell's 90-day warranty. Dell doesn't have an explicit policy for replacing displays with bad pixels, but customers can return the Inspiron 1000 within three weeks of purchase for full credit.

The company provides somewhat lackluster printed and electronic documentation for the Inspiron 1000, but the company's Web site has extensive FAQs, access to tech support and driver updates, and other helpful materials.
